Thank you, Mr. Doerner, for your My Turn piece “Don’t Blame Roosevelt for Incarceration of Japanese-Americans,” [Recorder, July 14].

I once heard a historian say that history can not be written for at least 50 years after an event. But there are also other ways to learn history. I am a fan of good historical novels. I highly recommend Lisa Scottoline’s “Killer Smile” about the incarceration of Italian Americans. FDR did consider internment camps until Harold L. Ickes asked FDR how he’d explain the internment of Joe DiMaggio’s mother!
