Kudos to Thad Bennett and the Friends of the Field Memorial Library for setting up a scholarship in honor of Ryan Walsh Martel (“Aiding the next generation of climate activists,” Recorder, Sept 30). What a brilliant way to honor an environmentalist from Conway. As a librarian, I’m thrilled that this project stems from the Friends of the Library. As a Conway resident who witnessed the devastation of this year’s floods, I think there couldn’t be a better time to call attention to this inspiring man who grew up in Conway and went on to dedicate his career to working on policy solutions to the climate crisis. Count me among the donors to the scholarship fund. Thanks to reporter Chris Larabee for reporting on this worthy project to recognize someone who worked to help heal the planet. May Ryan’s example inspire and motivate the scholarship recipients to make a difference in their own way.
