Buddy Baseball to kick off new season

Want to be a “Lawn Mower?” Buddy Baseball, a program for youth with disabilities to play ball with the help of peer buddies, seeks new players, buddies and coaches. This year we are, you guessed it, the Lawn Mowers, and we are an enthusiastic, family and fun-oriented crew.

We meet on Saturdays, May 13 to June 24 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Middle School Field in Greenfield, with a pizza party at the Green River Municipal Swim Area on our last day. The program is free, in memory of its founder, Thomas Roberts-Wierzbowski. Team T-shirts and group photos are included.

Our goals are to learn skills, have fun, be safe and play ball. Players can hit off of tees or from pitches. Players swing until they get a hit. Buddies help them hit, round the bases and in the field. Wheelchairs and walkers are welcome.

And it is not too late to become a sponsor! Special thanks to Mowry & Schmidt, James Anderson, and McGovern Chevrolet who are sponsoring this year’s program along with a grant received from the Festivals of the Trees.

To sign up or for more information, please contact the Greenfield Recreation Department, 413 772-1553 or reco@greenfield-ma.gov

We hope you will join us in the great American pastime of playing ball.
