Lift the debt ceiling; Nix making more Americans poor!

House GOP leaders are refusing to raise the so-called ‘debt ceiling” and to pay obligations that Congress created by law, unless they get deep cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, housing assistance, and core global poverty programs.

In other words, the “party of individual responsibility” wants the U.S. to default on its debts, lose an anticipated 800,000 jobs, and endure the dire hardships of a recession of choice, unless Republicans get their way. Thank goodness, this is unconstitutional!

The Fourteenth Amendment provides: “The validity of the public debt of the United States ... shall not be questioned.”

President Biden must direct the U.S. Treasury to honor the Constitution, and write the checks to pay what what we owe.
