As a voter and resident of Athol now of six years, I can’t believe how busy a small town is. Sirens multiple times a day. Police, fire, ambulance.

On July 31, Athol had a special town vote on hiring more firefighters. The people spoke. It was turned down. I voted yes, and was surprised by the outcome. Athol has had its third major fire in weeks. This fire left one person dead with two animals. So sad.

How many more fires and deaths will it take for townspeople to realize we need more firefighters? These men and women are so brave.
