The Oct. 26 My Turn completely missed the point of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict [“Why did Hamas attack Israel?”]. The writer begins with Gaza being walled off and then adds subsequent atrocities that led to Hamas breaking through and attacking Israel.
The real story is of course much older.
Why did Israel isolate Palestinians in the first place? If New Hampshire walled off Maine and stated they were no longer part of New England and the U.S. (and if Maine were totally surrounded by sea, not friendly Canada), wouldn't pressure ultimately mount to an explosive reaction?
While warfare is never a solution, there is much more to the origins of the story.
