Kathe Geist: Right, wrong, Newsom and Trump

House Speaker Mike Johnson has said that we have school shootings because parents no longer teach their children the difference between right and wrong. Yet Mr. Johnson played a key role in the House’s plot to overturn the 2020 election. Say again — who is it that doesn’t know the difference between right and wrong?

Gavin Newsome just vetoed a California bill that would have made it illegal for parents to delay medical treatment if their children experience gender dysphoria. Meanwhile, other states have made it illegal for parents to allow their children to transition to the opposite gender before the age of 18. Raise your hand if you think that children should not be used as pawns in the culture wars and that state governments should butt out of medical decisions best made by children and parents in consultation with their doctors

Trump’s recent gaffes (mistaking Turkey for Hungary, for example) have some folks chortling that he, too, may be showing his age. But let’s be honest: MAGA fans would vote for Trump even if he were dead. Most other people will not vote for him because 1) he’s incompetent; 2) he is a would-be dictator; 3) he is corrupt. Just ask Israel what happens when you elect a corrupt would-be dictator.
