Margo Culley: Made my day

Published: 08-07-2023 1:23 PM

I have been a faithful, daily reader of the Greenfield Recorder for decades. And I want to send special commendation to the editors and feature writers for the publication last Friday (Aug. 4).

As usual, the front page features a combination of compelling national news (“Trump pleads not guilty”) and local features (a Paul Franz photo of the Deerfield River under the arch of our beloved Bridge of Flowers).

But then when I turned to Friday’s opinion page I was delighted to see featured two of our local women whom I have long admired: a column by H. Patricia Hynes (and Timmon Wallis) on the “Two greatest threats to humanity and the natural world.” (Climate change and nuclear weapons). And also a column by Annie DiemandBucci in support of the Foundation for Community Justice.

I have known Pat Hynes for decades and am a great admirer of her dedicated work for peace with the Traprock Center for Peace and Justice. I also have known and admired Annie DiemandBucci as a “neighbor” who labors ceaselessly as an owner of the Diemand Farm in Wendell. And for a long time, as her column tells us, Annie has been a supporter of the Foundation for Community Justice.

Two extraordinarily admirable women whom I have been honored to know in my life. Your featuring them in Friday’s paper brings light to my heart in these challenging times.
