Equality, racism and fairness

In my 60-plus years of life, I don’t ever remember feeling better about myself when the other team let me win or when academic standards were lowered for me due to sickness or hardship of one sort or another. Am I alone in feeling this way? I don’t think so. Most people are proud and wanted to be judged fairly and like everyone else.

So, how are we being racist or discriminatory when we hold all people to the same standards of moral and civil conduct? Breaking and entering is a crime. It’s called stealing. Yet certain segments of our society are allowed to break and enter with impunity. Even assault and battery is somehow considered justifiable in many circles. Many of these crimes are perpetuated against other minorities.

What do we say to their victims? Keep your chin up, the criminals really don’t mean any harm? Many of these victims have worked hard, scrimped and saved, to get where they are. But, now it’s OK because we, as a society, have to lower our standards on account of what happened 150 years ago.

I personally don’t know a single minority who wants to be treated differently. In fact, they are insulted when preferential treatment is even suggested. There are multiple agendas afoot and few of them care one iota about racial fairness or equality in general. Trouble makers abound and they come in all shapes and sizes — and colors.
