SUNDERLAND — Police have identified the driver who allegedly struck a dog while it was on a walk and drove off Saturday night on Silver Lane. The dog did not survive.

The plastic cover from the vehicle’s wheel was found and police said it belongs to a Toyota RAV4.

The owner of the vehicle reached out to the department, Police Chief Erik Demetropoulos posted on Facebook Tuesday. He did not include a name.

“While many aspects of the investigation are complete, more and more enlightening information has come out regarding the circumstances surrounding the accident,” Demetropoulos wrote.

No further information can be released until the investigation is complete, he said.
