Knickknacks, trees and wreaths galore decorate every inch of four special Colrain homes.

To prepare for the holidays, the Colrain Historical Society is hosting a Christmas house tour of four specially decorated homes across the town.

“Colrain is a nice setting for a country Christmas,” Debby Wheeler, one of the organizers of the tour, said.

The tour will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 2 and 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Four historical society members will open their homes for anyone interested in Christmas to browse and get in the holiday spirit.

Tickets for the tour and a map, which cost $20, can be purchased at Pine Hill Orchard or Catamount Country store anytime the two businesses are open. They can be purchased in advance or the day of.

The homes include an early colonial home built in 1774 in the Williamsburg natural style, with simple decorations that focus on greenery and fruit (including oranges which were a special treat at that time). Also included in the tour is an 1890s Victorian home that was specially decorated by an interior designer, a warm and cozy country home built in 1977 filled with decorations from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. And finally, there will be a modern home filled to the brim with collectors’ Christmas items.

This is the first time the historical society has organized a tour like this, and in preparation, they have been decorating the homes since October.

All proceeds will go to the historical society and their continued renovations on the William Pitt House located at 8 Main Rd. In recent years, they spent over $10,000 on electrical work in the house to be able to be open to the public. Wheeler indicated their next big project consists of building handicap-accessible bathrooms.
