1st Franklin candidates forum to be held at Shea Theater

TURNERS FALLS -- A candidates forum featuring the seven candiates for the 1st Franklin House seat being vacated by Rep. Stephen Kulik, D-Worthington, is planned for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Shea Theater.

The forum is sponsored by the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, the Franklin County Resource Network Public Policy Task Force, Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture (CISA) and the League of Women Voters..

The Democratic candidates -- Kate Albright-Hanna of Huntington, Natalie Blais of Sunderland, Christine Doktor of Cummington, Jonathan Edwards of Whately, Casey Pease of Worthington, Nathaniel Waring of Sunderland and Francia Wisnewski of Montague, will discuss “food security and its underlying causes.”

Andrew Baker of Shelburne withdrew from the contest last week.

All seven will compete in the Sept. 4 Democratic primary. There are no Republican candidates running for the seat in the November election.

The forum will be moderated by Monte Belmonte of The River.

As part of the same series, the five candidates the state Senate seat left by the retirement of Sen. Stanley Rosenberg, D-Amherst, will take part in an Aug. 14 forum at the Shea Theater. That forum will be moderated by state Rep. Paul Mark, D-Peru.
