GREENFIELD — The crowd erupted for each one of Franklin County Technical School’s 122 graduates Friday as they headed to the stage to receive their diploma, marking the end of one chapter — and the start of a new one.

Salutatorian Zackery Conway addressed the crowd, saying that while the graduates’ paths will diverge, everyone will see success and failure.

“Always work the best you can, but don’t push it too far,” Conway said. “There will always be a second chance in life.”

Conway also asked students to think about what they owe to the world.

“Every generation has an obligation,” Conway said. “What is ours?”

Valedictorian Keltyn Socquet, who graduated from the cosmetology program, admitted that enrolling in Franklin Tech was a difficult, yet ultimately worthwhile, choice. She thanked the faculty for “pushing us to keep going,” even as “senioritis” kicked in.

“Don’t settle, always strive to be better, and most of all, be happy with the path that you choose,” Socquet said.

School administrators also offered some words of encouragement. Principal Brian Spadafino implored students to refuse to settle.

“There is no passion to be found playing small,” Spadafino said.
