Three Greenfield Community College students were recognized for their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit at the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation’s Entrepreneurship Initiative Annual Banquet held recently at the Log Cabin in Holyoke.

Abigail Drew of Butterly Bakery and Crystal-Ann Hoffman of Casey’s Custom Dog Houses each received a Concept Award in recognition of their business ideas that are still taking form. Brandt L. Miller of Beads by Brandt Louis received a Spirit Award in recognition for elevating his business concept to one that generates revenue through sales at craft fairs and placement in local boutiques.

“The Grinspoon EntrepreneurshipBanquet is a highlight of the academic year for me. Preparing students for this event begins in the fall. Over the course of the six months prior to this event, I witness an amazing transformation with our students. They realize their potential. One student told me recently they have a level of confidence they have never experienced before,” said Michelle Barthelemy, professor of business.

Drewl, Hoffman, and Miller were accompanied by 89 students from 13 other colleges and universities. The annual event featured a keynote address by Massachusetts-based entrepreneur and “Shark Tank” success story, Wombi Rose, of Lovepop cards. The event also featured a student entrepreneur showcase, live elevator pitch contest judged by community bankers, and an awards ceremony celebrating the students’ achievements.

“Though I’m a seasoned entrepreneur, I get a thrill every year from seeing these creative business minds at work!” says philanthropist Harold Grinspoon.
