Youth baseball: Greenfield Minor League All-Stars place 2nd at 8U state championship

The Greenfield 8U Minor League All-Star baseball team traveled to Milford to compete in the 8U state tournament over the weekend. 

Greenfield went unbeaten in pool play and later reached the finals, where it ended up taking second place overall. 

Greenfield knocked off Marlboro (10-4), Uxbridge (9-5) and Northbridge (10-9) in group play to earn the top seed in the semifinals, where it knocked off Nashoba, 8-7, to reach Sunday’s championship game. 

In the title game, Greenfield fell to Milford, 12-4. 

Greenfield’s Noah Marguet, Owen Little and Sean Degen led the way on the mound, with Marguet winning the Golden Arms Skills Competition. 

Connor Bergeron, Colton Urkiel and Mason Lovett had a strong weekend at the plate while Cooper Deane played well at second base for Greenfield. 

“The whole team of kids played extremely hard and came up big on the state stage this weekend,” Greenfield head coach Cody Kingsbury said. “Everyone stepped up to get their trophy.”
