Pioneer Valley Brass Quintet Christmas Vespers program set for today at 4 p.m.

GREENFIELD — The First Universalist Parish of North Dana sponsors a Christmas Vespers Program featuring a free public performance of holiday music by the Pioneer Valley Brass Quintet today at 4 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Long Avenue. The concert is the 787th in a series of memorial vesper services funded since the 1930s. This program will include Joy to the World, arr. by Snell; Do you hear What I Hear? arr by Coolidge; English Medley, arr. by Boysen, Jr.; You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch, by Seuss and more.

‘Caroling on the Green’ set for 4 p.m. today in Shelburne Falls

SHELBURNE FALLS — Trinity Church will sponsor a “Caroling on the Green,” on the corner of Water and Main streets on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 4 p.m. For more information, call 413-625-2341.

First Congregational Church of Shelburne: Third Sunday of Advent

SHELBURNE — The First Congregational Church of Shelburne will celebrate the Third Sunday of Advent on Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. with the lighting of the Candle of Hope. The Rev. Robert Gorrmbley will preach on “The Songs of Advent.” At 1 p.m., the church will gather at Fellowship Hall to go caroling in the community, followed by participation in the Cathedral in the Light on the Greenfield Town Common.

The Annual Christmas Pageant will be held on Friday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m.

All Souls, Sunday: “The Dark is a Nurturing Place”

GREENFIELD — This Sunday, Dec. 16, at 10:30 a.m., All Souls UU Church (399 Main St.) invites you to join speaker Jennifer Bennett, a “Priestess-at-large” and Pagan clergy in the valley for over 20 years. She will be speaking on the topic, “The Dark is a Nurturing Place.”

Join the ‘No Practice’ Christmas Pageant Sunday at 2

GREENFIELD — The Cathedral in the Light, Franklin County’s Outdoor Ecumenical Church, invites all to their annual “No Practice” Christmas Pageant on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m. on the Town Common. There will be roles for all, or you can simply come and experience the joy-filled service, followed by a free holiday meal. If you have anything you’d like to share — music, poetry, reflections or food — feel free to bring it along. This is an ecumenical service and all are welcome.

Townwide Carol Sing set for Sunday at 1

WHATELY — A townwide carol sing will take place at the First Congregational Church of Whately, 177 Chestnut Plain road, on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 1 p.m. Steve Calderone will lead and play songs of the season upon request. Refreshments will follow.

Yule celebration marks winter solstice, Sunday evening

FLORENCE — Join us as we gather to wait through the longest night and welcome the light’s return, Sunday, Dec. 16, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Florence Civic Center, 90 Park St., at the corner of North Main and Park streets. Please bring a donation of dry goods like rice, beans, pastor or ground coffee for the Springfield Survival Center. Also: used winter ware in good condition. Contribution for admission: $7 to $10 on a sliding scale. Families and children are welcome.

Community Memorial Service on the Common: Wednesday at 4

GREENFIELD — The annual service of remembrance for those who have died on the streets or without a home or loving community will take place Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 4 p.m., on the Common in Greenfield. The service is sponsored by the Interfaith Council of Franklin County. All are invited and a meal will be offered at Second Congregational Church following the service.

Celebrate Shabbat at Temple Israel, Saturday, Dec. 22

GREENFIELD — Yosl Kurland will lead a traditional Shabbat morning service at Temple Israel on Saturday, Dec. 22, at 10 a.m., followed by a dairy/vegetarian potluck lunch and mini-concert/discussion of Yiddish songs. Come for all or part; there is no charge and you do not have to be a member of Temple Israel to participate. Child care will be provided.
