Fulton to speak at Bernardston UU

BERNARDSTON — Documentary film maker Rawn Fulton will speak on the topic of immigration this Sunday at Bernardston Unitarian Church, 49 Church St., at 11:30 a.m. Coffee starts at 11 a.m. First, Fulton will show his 28-min. film, “Sustainable Lives, Attainable Dreams,” on world population growth and resource consumption and then present more recent analysis of these issues.

Advent Penance Service, Sunday, Dec. 2

GREENFIELD — An Advent Penance Service for the Greenfield Catholic Community, the parishes of Blessed Sacrament and Holy Trinity, will take place at Holy Trinity Church, 133 Main St., on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. Many priests will be available to hear confessions. It is a wondrous opportunity to see the forgiveness of sins and enter into the true spirit of the Christmas season.

GREENFIELD — Temple Israel at 27 Pierce St., invites people of all faiths to a Shabbat dinner and observance of Human Rights Shabbat on Friday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. Human Rights Shabbat is observed on the Shabbat closest to International Human Rights Day, Dec. 10, which is the anniversary of the UN’s adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. GREENFIELD — Join this Impromptu Christmas Pageant telling the story of Jesus’ birth on Sunday, Dec. 9, at Second Congregational Church on Bank Row. All are welcome to have a role or to be in the audience. One rehearsal at 3 p.m., followed by the Pageant (with costumes) at 4 p.m. Then stay for a mac ‘n’ cheese dinner for everyone right after the pageant.

Church Christmas Tree Lighting set for Dec. 9

SHUTESBURY — Shutesbury Community Church will hold a Christmas tree lighting and visit by Santa Claus on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. in front of the church at 6 Town Common Road. The event will include the singing of carols, light of the tree and arrival of Santa by fire truck. Country recording artist Caylin Lee will perform. Afterward, the church will provide cider, doughnuts and hot chocolate in its fellowship hall while children meet with Santa. Parents are advised to bring their cameras. A Community Service of Lessons and Carols, Sunday, Dec. 9

DEERFIELD — The First Church of Deerfield at 71 Old Main St., will host a Community Service of Lessons and Carols, Sunday, Dec. 9 at 4 p.m. The service will include readings, choral and instrumental music and carols sung by all. Choirs from The Bement School, Deerfield Academy, Eaglebrook School and The First Church of Deerfield will participate.

Hanukkah Celebration set for Dec. 9

GREENFIELD — All are welcome to Light the Night and celebrate Hanukkah with Temple Israel and Hawks & Reed on Sunday, Dec. 9 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Hawks & Reed Performing Arts Center, 289 Main St. Join us for candle making and lighting, music and dancing with the Wholesale Klezmer Band and delicious latkes with all the fixings. $10 adults/$5 children. Blue Christmas Service set for Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m.

GREENFIELD — Second Congregational Church, on Bank Row, will host a Blue Christmas Service on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. This is a special service for those seeking wholeness and peace during a season of festivity. Our Blue Christmas service give the opportunity to feel the hope, love and peace of the advent season in a subdued and reflective setting.

‘Caroling on the Green’ set for Saturday, Dec. 15

Yule celebration marks Winter Solstice, set for Dec. 16

FLORENCE — Join us as we gather to wait through the longest night and welcome the light’s return, Sunday, Dec. 16, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Florence Civic Center, 90 Park St., at the corner of North Main and Park streets. Please bring a donation of dry goods like rice, beans, pastor or ground coffee for the Springfield Survival Center. Also: used winter ware in good condition. Contribution for admission: $7 to $10 on a sliding scale. Families and children are welcome.
