GREENFIELD — The YMCA pool and hot tub have been closed for a week because of an issue with the air-exchange system that feeds fresh air into the area, according to the nonprofit’s CEO.

Grady Vigneau said the problem with the several-year-old air-exchange system is being assessed by engineers and he expects some sort of upgrade to the system will have to be done. He said he, the YMCA board, and its aquatics and operations directors are working with engineers and the city’s building inspector and Fire Department on the issue.

“The health, safety and care of our members is always at the top of our minds,” Vigneau said. “We closed the pool because we decided to err on the side of caution.”

Vigneau said engineers were visiting the site on Friday to assess the situation. He said there would be information about what needs to be done after that visit.

“We’re going to do this right, whatever time it takes,” he said. “We apologize for any inconvenience to our members.”

Vigneau said he hopes the pool will be open sometime next week, to allow time for parts to be ordered.
