GREENFIELD — Police are searching for a man who reportedly used a rock or piece of concrete to assault and rob a woman on Federal Street just after midnight on Friday.

According to the Greenfield Police Department, a call was placed at 12:06 a.m. to report a woman ran into the CVS parking lot at 137 Federal St. stating she had been mugged. The caller said he was in the parking lot with the woman, who was bleeding from the face.

Greenfield Police Lt. Joe Burge said the 29-year-old woman was attacked near Federal Street School and taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center, where she was treated for a head injury and released. Burge said undisclosed items were stolen from the woman.

Police describe the suspect as a skinny black man who was wearing a blue shirt and headphones at the time of the assault.
