Escape from the trials and tribulations of today’s world and join a cast of performers for a pleasant interlude of hellish nightmares and feverish laughter.

Pauline Productions is back with its 13th-anniversary tour of “Whispering Bones” at the First Congregational Church in Ashfield for an evening of ghost stories. The event will take place Monday, Oct. 30 a 7 p.m. Tickets cost $15 to $25 for adults and $7 for children.

“I think people know the joy of being spooked,” said actress Jeannine Haas.

Master of Ceremonies Dr. Betterov-Underhill and a cast of performers will present a new mix of creepy, comic, and thought-provoking stories, including works by M.R. James, Edgar Allan Poe and others. This year’s show features giant gray worms, a tell-tale heart, and a ghost ship in a turnip patch.

The scenes consist of each actor telling and reenacting their scary ghost story to the crowd. The stories include both classics as well as modern tales.

This is the fourth year the show will come to Ashfield. It features a tri-state group of actors including Pauline Productions’ Jeannine Haas and organist Meagan Reilly. Other stops on the tour include Bennington Performing Arts Center in Vermont, Fort Salem Theater in Salem, New York, Eighth Step in Schenectady, New York, and Park Theater in Hudson, New York.

“It is this time of year where there is a big transition,” Haas said. “We are going from the abundance of the harvest to everything dying back … Death is in the air … it is important to laugh and in some way to have some jest with things we cannot control.”

This is a mask-required event. It is funded in part by Ashfield, Goshen, Williamsburg, and Conway Local Mass Cultural Arts Grants. Tickets can be purchased at Ashfield Hardware or reserved in advance by emailing paulinelive@gmail.com or by calling 413-588-1534.
