Vehicle stickers required at Transfer Station

COLRAIN — Effective Thursday, Oct. 28, vehicles using the Colrain Transfer Station at 7 Charlemont Road must display a Transfer Station sticker.

Two stickers will be issued to each Colrain household free of charge. Stickers may be obtained the Colrain Town Office, 55 Main Road, or at the Transfer Station Attendants Shed. Stickers must be displayed on the rear-most driver’s side window.

Because the Colrain Transfer Station serves a regional “super site,” the town is obligated to allow any citizen residing in the Franklin County Solid Waste Management District to dispose of items designated as super-site items, such as mattresses, for a fee.

Charlemont-Hawley Cultural Council accepting applications for funding

The Charlemont-Hawley Cultural Council is seeking funding proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities and science programs in 2024.

This local cultural council has approximately $11,000 to distribute to groups and individuals that are planning programs in the two member towns. According to Charlemont-Hawley Cultural Council Chair Tinky Weisblat, these grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities in Hawley or Charlemont — including exhibits, festivals, field trips, artist residencies, performances in or out of schools, workshops and lectures.

The Charlemont-Hawley Cultural Council gives priority to events taking place in, or created by people living in, its two-town district.

The deadline for applications is Tuesday, Oct. 17. Applications may be filled out online at massculturalcouncil.smartsimple.com.

For more information on the council, application forms, and a full list of the local council’s priorities, call Tinky Weisblat at 413-339-4747 or visit massculturalcouncil.org/local-council/charlemont-hawley.
