Historical Society hosting ‘Root Hog or Die’ screening

COLRAIN — The Historical Society will host a free screening of “Root Hog or Die” on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Stacy Barn behind the Pitt House, located at 8 Main Road.

The digitally remastered film, which was originally released in 1973, documents the lives of farmers in Bernardston, Leyden, Colrain, Ashfield and Guilford, Vermont. Through interviews, they reflect on agricultural patterns, and share their family histories and personal memories.

The program follows a 7 p.m. meeting of the Colrain Historical Society. Bernardston filmmaker Rawn Fulton will be in attendance. Refreshments will be served.

Native plant nursery hosting tour

COLRAIN — Checkerspot Farm owner Jocelyn Demuth will host a tour of her native plant nursery on Sunday, Sept. 17, from noon until 2 p.m.

The tour will include an explanation of what is happening at the farm, lessons about native plants and guidance about what to do with a garden or meadow at the end of the season.

Checkerspot Farm is located at 30 Jacksonville Road. Plants will be available for sale after the tour.
