Nomination papers now available

SHELBURNE — Nomination papers for the May 16 town election are available at the Town Clerk’s Office, 51 Bridge St. The last day to obtain nomination papers is March 16 and they must be returned to Town Clerk Joe Judd by 5 p.m. on March 21.

The positions on the ballot are: Selectboard, three-year term; assessor, three-year term; constable, three-year term; assessor, one-year unexpired term; town clerk, one-year term; moderator; one-year term; Shelburne Free Public Library trustees, two seats with three-year terms; Planning Board, five-year term; Recreation Committee, five-year term; Recreation Committee, three-year unexpired term; tree warden, one-year term; and Mohawk Trail Regional School District School Committee, three-year term.

The Town Clerk’s Office is open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m ., Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment.

Excise tax bills mailed in Colrain

COLRAIN — Excise tax bills have been mailed and are due Tuesday, March 14.

Taxes can be paid online at colrain-ma.gov; mailed to the Town Office at 55 Main Rd., Colrain, MA 01340; or placed in the Town Office dropbox. Residents can also pay in person at Treasurer/Collector Paula Harrison’s office on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Feb. 15: Forestry book presentation

SHELBURNE — The Shelburne Grange will host Russell Richardson for a talk about his first book, “10,000 Days in the Woods: The Beginning,” on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.

Richardson is a dedicated forester who left home in 1969 at the age of 17 to pursue forestry education. His book contains historical insight as well as stories from his life.
