Colrain Selectboard to reconvene on road issue

COLRAIN — The Selectboard will discuss the closure of East Colrain Road Monday at 6 p.m. at the Town Hall.

The road was closed last week because faulty infill provided by contractor Northeast Paving allegedly damaged a few residents’ tires.

A public meeting on the matter attended by Northeast Paving on Aug. 6 did not yield a resolution, Town Coordinator Kevin Fox said. The Monday meeting will pick up the discussion, he said.

Sen. Hinds seeks legislative seminar participants

State Sen. Adam Hinds, D-Pittsfield, is accepting resumes from constituents interested in attending the 83rd Citizens’ Legislative Seminar, to be held Oct. 22 and 23 at the statehouse.

According to a news release, the two-day event includes presentations by state senators and staff about the history of the Legislature, the budget, how bills are introduced and passed, the parliamentary role of the Senate clerk and the future of the state government. The seminar was established in 1976 as a collaborative effort of the Massachusetts Senate and the University of Massachusetts Boston.

The Citizens’ Legislative Seminar culminates with a simulated legislative hearing and Senate session, where participants are invited to use what learn to participate as “Senators” in the Senate Chamber, giving them a first-hand experience of the legislative process.

Each state senator can nominate and sponsor one constituent to attend the seminar, the release states. Interested residents living in Hinds’ district — which includes parts of Berkshire, Hampshire, Franklin and Hampden counties — can send a resume by noon on Aug. 26 to Chief of Staff Bethann Steiner via email at bethann.steiner@masenate.gov.

Those interested in Hinds’ nomination must be able to attend both days of the seminar. Attendees are responsible for arranging their travel and lodging plans.
