WENDELL – The town’s new municipal website is up and running and will soon serve as an official posting place for public meeting notices and other community information.

Gillian Budine, vice chairwoman of the Wendell Selectboard, said the newest version of www.wendellmass.us was quietly launched on Oct. 5 after the town’s website committee worked closely for months with ProudCity, an Oakland-based platform local governments use to manage digital operations.

“I’m very happy to have a website that has some additional features and hopefully people will find it easier get around and get the information they’re looking for. And it’s built to be more accessible,” Budine said, noting that she has heard little feedback in general about the updated site. “The little bit that I have has been positive. And sometimes when you don’t hear much, it’s going well.”

Budine explained the previous site’s platform could no longer be updated and town officials wanted a better version that could be used for posting information about meetings. She said there is an option at the bottom of the homepage for people to submit new items or events to be posted upon review by the Website Committee. Budine said she is particularly fond of the site’s search engine.

Robert Heller, chairman of the Website Committee, mentioned he is pleased with the final product.

“It’s looks good and works quite well,” he said. “It’s pretty nice.”

Heller said he joined the Website Committee, which effectively serves as the town’s webmaster, in the mid-2000s.

The website includes information on local government services, boards and committees as well as an opt-out feature for CodeRED notifications, which alert residents and businesses to time-sensitive information and emergencies by telephone, text message, email, and social media. There also is a way for residents to pay motor vehicle excise and property taxes or internet and phone bills. The website also can be translated into dozens of languages.

Town Coordinator Glenn Johnson-Mussad said he is thrilled with the new and improved website.

“I think it’s fabulous. I really appreciate the leadership that the website committee did in researching a vendor … that meets our needs,” he said. “They definitely found a good vendor and a good product that they can use.”

He said the website was launched with no bugs or glitches.

“It’s been a very smooth rollout,” the town coordinator said.

Budine also mentioned the site’s homepage has a “Feedback” that allows users to submit options and suggestions.
