ERVING — A car’s “slow-speed collision” with the Weatherheads Convenience Store on the French King Highway on Monday resulted in minor damage to the storefront, according to Erving Police Chief Robert Holst.
Erving Police and Fire departments responded to the incident at 4:32 p.m. Holst said the driver of the involved 2018 Honda Civic SE had recently acquired the vehicle and was unfamiliar with the gear-shifting mechanism. For this reason, the driver believed she had parked the vehicle without knowing the car was still in drive, causing it to roll into the storefront, Holst recapped. Police issued a verbal warning for “unsafe operation.”
“It looks like it was just an accident — no reckless operation — so the officer didn’t issue a citation,” Holst said.
The entryway window was shattered and the storefront’s wooden and brick exterior received minor damage. Both the Weatherheads Convenience Store and the Dunkin’ location inside continued operations unimpeded.
“I was in the building when I heard this big thump and that was it,” recounted Weatherheads owner Ralph Semb.
Building Inspector Jim Hawkins affirmed the building was structurally sound following the incident, according to Holst.
Nobody was injured, Holst added. The vehicle was towed by Koch’s Automotive after sustaining front-end damage.
