WARWICK — Residents looking for a place to bring their fluorescent light bulbs and rechargeable batteries need look no farther than their Transfer Station, thanks to the addition of a new universal waste shed.

According to Town Coordinator David Young, the town purchased and installed the shed using a $3,000 grant from the Department of Environmental Protection. It will be used to collect mercury-bearing items such as fluorescent light bulbs and ballasts, mercury switches and rechargeable batteries.

“It’s important to keep mercury and the heavy metals associated with those products out of our landfills,” Young said.

The Transfer Station is open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to the Warwick town website.
