ORANGE — A Gardner organization dedicated to the economic prosperity of the communities of north-central Massachusetts is expanding into Orange.

The Wachusett Business Incubator plans to operate out of LaunchSpace inside the Orange Innovation Center starting Monday.

Executive Director Scott Graves explained the nonprofit is reallocating 35 percent of its existing budget to expand its Business Triage Program to Orange and Fitchburg to help businesses struggling due to the economic strain resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. He explained the Business Triage Program’s clients receive one-on-one mentorship following an intake interview to determine parameters for improving the client’s business.

The Wachusett Business Incubator provides clients “with small, incremental goals to help them out of the problem or problems that they’re in,” Graves said. “We’re here to say, ‘Let’s treat the problem the best we can.’”

Prospective and existing clients can participate in weekly sessions held remotely and, when it is deemed safe to do so, in person. Graves said business owners across the nation will be included in these sessions to strategize and determine ways to address universal issues faced during the pandemic.

The Wachusett Business Incubator will share space inside LaunchSpace, a member-based makerspace, in Suite 342 at 131 West Main St. Graves said he and David Lubelczyk, his senior mentor, will occupy the office.

Graves said clients pay a $180 annual membership fee for access to all of the business incubator’s programs. This comes out to $15 per month.

Graves said Orange Community Development Director Alec Wade approached the Wachusett Business Incubator about expanding into Orange.

“Orange is a town comprised of almost entirely small business owners,” Wade, in a statement, said about making the move to host the business incubator in Orange. “The pandemic has most certainly created unique challenges and forced changes in business operation. Scott and his team will work hard to help our business owners pivot and evolve their business to meet the current conditions. We are ecstatic to be able to host such a business-friendly service.”

The Fitchburg location is at 166 Boulder Drive, Suite 104, and the Gardner location is at 35 Sanborn St.
