VERNON, Vt.  — A public hearing and informational session scheduled for today at the Vernon Elementary School about the proposed sale of the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant has been postponed because of the snowstorm.

Judith Whitney, clerk of the state’s Public Service Board, said that the hearing would be rescheduled.

It was to be the first of what will be two PSB hearings about the proposed sale of the Vernon reactor to a company that would dismantle it. The plant was shut down by Entergy Nuclear in December 2014.

Under the proposed sale to NorthStar Holding Co., decommissioning and clean up of the Vernon site would be moved up by decades.

The snowstorm is expected to leave 12 to 18 inches of snow in Vermont.
