Renee Reed dished five assists and added three kills, five aces and five digs to lead the Franklin Tech girls volleyball team to a 3-1 victory against Pioneer on Monday in Northfield.
“We didn’t win but I am seeing great improvement,” Panthers coach Robin Tibbetts said.
The Eagles came out with a 25-20 win in the first set but Pioneer answered with a 25-19 victory in the second set. Tech responded by winning the third set, 25-17, before closing out the match with a 25-12 win in the fourth set.
Faith Smith tallied an ace, four kills and two blocks in the win for the Eagles, with Lillian Poirier adding five aces, four assists and a dig.
Lily Faille led the Panthers with four aces and four kills. Caoilinn Lounder finished with five assists, Alana Redeker had four aces and Avery Johnson had five kills in the loss.
Athol 3, Mohawk Trail 2 — It took five sets to determine a winner between the Bears and the Warriors on Monday.
Athol came away with a 25-14 win in the first set and a 25-22 win in the third set, but Mohawk Trail earned a 25-11 victory in the second set and took the fourth set, 25-9, to force a fifth set.
The Bears took control of the fifth set and pulled it out by a score of 15-10 to come away with a 3-2 triumph on their home court.
“We may have got the ‘W’ in the win column but it was ugly,” Athol coach Donna Lajoie said. “We know we can play much better volleyball than this.”
Lexi Forte finished with six aces and three assists in the win for the Bears. Laney Florentino knocked two kills, Maddy Kenniff had a block and a kill, Alma White had three kills, a block and four aces and Lindsey LeBlanc had two blocks in the win.
The four blocks were the first of the season for Athol.
Octavia Crawford had four kills, eight assists and five aces in the loss for the Warriors. Alex Lilly added two kills, four digs and three aces, Elly Patnode scored 15 aces, Palmer King recorded nine aces and six kills and Sophie Guy had four kills.
