MONTAGUE — After seven months, the Veterinary Hospital of Lauralyn J. Brown has relocated to 196 Millers Falls Road, after renovations were completed. The new location is across the parking lot from its previous space.

The practice was at the same rented space for 21 years, but Brown decided to relocate after purchasing the neighboring building, said practice manager Cheryl Cote.

The hospital currently has 11 employees, including two veterinarians — Dr. Lauralyn Brown and Dr. Cheryl Mathein.

Cote said several improvements have been made in the renovated space.

“The space is better organized for us,” Cote said. “The pharmacy was in a cupboard and now we have the medications organized in a better.”

Brown said the new facility has a partial driveway, a porch, a larger treatment area, two exam rooms and a more modern, separate surgery suite.

“The biggest change is the second exam room. We can have a better flow of work for the vets,” Cote said. “They go from one pet to the next easier and it cuts down on waiting time, which is great.”

Cote said a dedicated x-ray room, lift tables in each exam room and separate rooms for cats and dogs allow for the veterinary hospital to be more organized for the staff and vets using it.

“It was great to see the renovations come to fruition,” Cote said. “The previous location didn’t showcase Dr. Brown’s ability and love for the practice. This place feels more appropriate.”

The move has been Brown’s dream for a long time.

“I decided when I was a kid, I wanted to be a veterinarian,” Brown said. “I went to Hampshire College for my undergrad and Kansas State after that, then I came back to Franklin County Animal Hospital. I got on my own and opened here, where I’ve been leasing. This is the next logical step, and I’m really excited. Clients are really excited.”

Brown said while searching for property in Turners Falls, a piece of residential property adjacent to the hospital’s current location went on sale last year and it was an ideal move.

“We don’t want to lose clients, so this is an ideal spot,” Brown said. “We’re actually going to be using the same parking lot.”

She said the relocation will help not only to retain long-time clients but help get new ones as well.

“We’re at a stage where we can look to take new clients,” Brown said. “Dr. Mathein and I are capable of doing that.”

Brown said there will be a backyard for people to walk dogs before or after treatment.

The new property was renovated by Integrity Builders of Amherst.
