HALIFAX, Vt. — Vermont State Police announced Tuesday that a utility worker who died while working for Green Mountain Power last week was a Colrain resident.

Lucas Donahue, 41, of Colrain, died Thursday, Dec. 1, at approximately 11 a.m. while working to restore electric service following last week’s windstorm. According to Vermont State Police, Donahue sustained serious injuries while working on Reed Hill Road in Halifax, Vermont and was pronounced dead at the scene. The death has been ruled accidental.

In a statement, Green Mountain Power said Donahue died while conducting field work. The company thanked the community for its support of Donahue’s family and his coworkers.

“This is a very sad time, and we are focused on doing all we can to support Luke’s family and everyone at GMP who is grieving this unimaginable loss. Luke brought positivity and a lighthearted attitude wherever he went. He was working in the field to serve customers during last week’s windstorm when a tree fell,” the statement reads. “We are so grateful for the outpouring of support from the community for Luke, his family and his GMP teammates. We are especially grateful for the first responders. We are holding Luke and all of his loved ones in our hearts.”

A GoFundMe created by Donald Mills of Marlboro, Vermont had raised $94,373 as of Tuesday evening. In the fundraiser’s description, Mills described Donahue, who leaves behind his wife and two children, as someone who brought light into the world every day.

“Luke brought positivity and a lighthearted attitude wherever he went,” the description reads. “He always had a smile on his face, a joke at the ready and was quick to laugh. He loved his family and his job very much. Luke made every life he touched better.”
