GREENFIELD — If your New Year’s resolution is going to be to lose weight or get fit next year, then Greenfield will have another option to help you in that endeavor.

The club manager of a Planet Fitness franchise between Staples and Dollar Tree in the Big Y plaza provided an update this week on its expected opening, saying the public will likely be able to work out in the new space starting in early January.

Karen Berman said the facility at 259 Mohawk Trail will span roughly 20,000 square feet, and is accepting members at its pre-sale office at the same location.

“Everyone seems to be really excited. We’ve had a very positive receiving, very positive feedback from everyone,” she said. “They seem to be very excited that we’re here.”

Planet Fitness franchise owner Tom Sullivan, from LLMT, LLC, is opening the gym. He also owns a Planet Fitness in Gardner.

Berman said the gym will offer no-commitment and black card memberships. She said the no-commitment membership, which can be canceled at any time, is $10 a month and comes with unlimited access to the equipment, locker rooms and fitness training. The black card membership is a 12-month program that gives customers access to the gym’s black card spa, which includes hydro-massage lounges and massage chairs, as well as unlimited tanning. Berman said it costs $1 down and $21.99 a month, but customers can bring a guest each time and can visit any of the 1,500 Planet Fitness location worldwide 10 times a month.

Both memberships have annual $39 fees due March 1. All fees are withdrawn automatically from customers’ accounts.

Berman said the walls of the temporary room that greets customers right now will come down, and the space will be filled with 20 big-screen televisions and cardio equipment with boxes that allow members to plug in headphones or earbuds to stream audio content from a TV.

Anyone interested in becoming a member can sign up at the location. Berman said no one will be charged until Jan. 17. The $1 start-up and no-commitment offer is available until only Nov. 30, she said.

Berman also said the location will have about 14 employees, a mixture of full- and part-time. Applications are still being accepted and are available at the pre-sale office. All employees receive free gym memberships.

“We’re just as excited as everybody else to open our doors,” Berman said. “All the staff here is very excited.”

Berman said the pre-sale office hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Once in business, she said the gym will be open 24 hours beginning at midnight on Monday through Thursday with Friday hours from midnight until 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday will have operations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
