The Massachusetts men’s basketball team showed flashes of what’s to come this season, as the Minutemen excelled on both sides of the ball in an 85-41 exhibition victory over Western Connecticut State at the Mullins Center on Wednesday night.

Freshman Robert Davis Jr. stole the show with a brilliant display of three-point shooting. Davis Jr. poured in six three-pointers en route to a game-high 20 points in 23 minutes. Fellow freshman Mathok Majok was a monster on the glass securing 14 rebounds, and Rahsool Diggins showcased his off-season improvements with 15 points.

Defensively, UMass forced 27 turnovers and turned those into 35 points. Offensive rebounding was another area where the Minutemen excelled, snagging 24 of them for 29 second-chance points.

Atlantic 10 Preseason Third Team-select Matt Cross put up 10 points and five rebounds in his limited nine-minute role.

The Minutemen officially open the season with a home contest Nov. 7 against Albany at 7 p.m.
