WENDELL — The Friends of the Wendell Meetinghouse has started a new public series driven entirely by donations.

Thursdays at the Wendell Meetinghouse will consist of music, readings and other events starting at 7 p.m. every Thursday through June 29. Admission is free and donations will benefit the Friends of the Wendell Meetinghouse and support the historic structure’s programming and continued renovation.

Some of the scheduled events are presented by Spirit Circles, which consists of talks and other presentations by guest presenters and community members on the topic of spirituality and religious journeys.

“(Spirit Circles is) trying to carry on the tradition of spiritual-seeking in the current time,” said Court Dorsey, of the Friends of the Wendell Meetinghouse. “(The new series) is to continue to offer things that … are in the Spirit Circles mode of spiritual seeking.”

Dorsey is slated to read his original mystical poem “The Path of Bernadette” on the town common in Wendell across from the Meetinghouse this Thursday. Dorsey said the poem weaves together practices and mythology from Hindu and Buddhist traditions, as well as the Stations of the Cross and “the Twelve Steps” of Alcoholics Anonymous. It is structured around 12 mysteries suggested by the imagery of the song “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” and developed by the author while traveling in northern India in 1973 and 1974. It was written during the COVID-19 pandemic and is now complete.

Dorsey and Annie Hassett kicked off the Thursdays at the Wendell Meetinghouse series with a sing-along on May 4 and “Broken Mirrors, Infinite Grace and Surrender,” a Spirit Circles event put together by Deb Tyler followed on May 11.

“Wendell has a very unique and eclectic spirituality because of the people that live there,” Dorsey said.
