GREENFIELD — A three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Silver Street, Country Club Road and Vernon Street hospitalized five occupants on Friday afternoon.
Greenfield Police and Fire personnel joined Northfield EMS, Colrain Ambulance, American Medical Response (AMR) and Massachusetts State Police to respond to the collision at approximately 4:30 p.m. According to Fire Chief Robert Strahan, ambulances transported two people to the hospital with serious injuries, another individual with significant injuries and two others with minor injuries.
Strahan said patients were transported to either Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield or Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
Greenfield resident Faith Reipold was driving west down Silver Street with her son Kaleb when she said she saw a gray Dodge Ram “flying” down Country Club Road. According to Reipold’s account, the truck drove through the stop sign and collided with a red Ford F-150, which then struck a Honda Accord that was approaching the stop sign on Vernon Street.
Reipold said after witnessing the crash, she immediately pulled over and called 911.
“We were just coming through to go that way and make a shortcut. I’m glad we weren’t a minute earlier,” she said. “It was right in front of me. … They collided right in the middle and the impact was so hard that it shoved both cars to the gold [Honda] that was coming to the stop sign.”
Greenfield Police Sgt. Todd Clark said at 4:45 p.m. that the incident was still under investigation. He said it was unknown at that time whether charges will be filed.
