MONTAGUE — A teenage boy was airlifted to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield on Friday after he was hit by a vehicle while on his bicycle.

Montague Police and Turners Falls Fire departments responded to a call at 12:23 p.m. for a report of a boy on a bicycle who had been struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Fifth and K streets, according to Turners Falls Fire Chief John Zellmann.

With assistance from the Fire Department, AMR transported the boy to the helipad at Baystate Franklin Medical Center, where he was airlifted to Springfield.

The condition of the patient — who Zellmann described as a young teenager — was unknown as of Friday afternoon, but Zellmann said he sustained trauma to his head and body.

“We don’t know (the condition of the patient) until the evaluation is done at the hospital,” he said.
