Chronic Pain Relief:The Y is offering a brain based yoga therapy class for those looking for some relief from chronic pain. This class is for people suffering from fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression, PTSD, etc.  This class teaches people ways to access and overcome unconscious brain patterns associated with chronic pain. Home practice support materials include a gentle Hatha Yoga video and posture flow chart, as well as body scan exercises, journaling assignments, and personal power imagery practices. Intake needed prior to first class. You must be willing to commit to the eight-week program, including home yoga practice and exercises.  The course will meet on Mondays from 11:30a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning April 15. Free Heart Health Talk: On Saturday, April 13 from 10 to 11 a.m., Emily Patno, Baystate Franklin Medical Center Nurse Practitioner, will present "Cardiovascular Risk Beyond the Basics". She will discuss: Aspirin in the news and its controversy and who can benefit from an Aspirin a day? There will be a Q&A after the talk. These Second Saturday Health Talks are free and open to the public as part of the Y's Social Responsibility efforts. Visit ymcaingreenfield.org for more info about the YMCA.

Register for May-June Classes: Registration begins April 8 for Y Members and April 15 for all others for Session 5 (April 22-June 16) programs and classes. Youth Programs include: Swim and Gymnastics lessons, Soccer, Basketball Skills and Drills (ages 4-8) and Summer Camps! Adult Programs include: Water Therapy or Fitness classes, Healthy Bones and Balance, Strength Training, Diabetes Care Program, and more. Healthy Bones and Balance:taught by Marsha Staples Love and Ann McGrath, helps the participants build their bones and muscles with light weights. All exercises are done in a chair or with the support of a chair. The class is free for everyone and the Y is wheelchair accessible. Please pre-register. Call Jayne at 413-7733646 ext. 448. Classes held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to noon. This class is provided by RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Persons) of Hampshire & Franklin Counties and the YMCA in Greenfield.

Family Swims: Eight times per week the Y offers family swims where parents/grandparents can swim with their children. Family swims are a great way to introduce 1-3-year-olds to the water, improve swim skills and endurance of older children, and have fun together. The swims are free with a Y family membership or an $18 per day fee for two adults and their children. The times are Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 3 to 3:45 p.m. for children 6 months through 5 years old, Monday and Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m., Friday at 7:15 p.m. and Saturday at 6:15 p.m. Y family memberships are sold on a sliding fee scale from $20-$66 per month paid by bank draft. Call 413-773-3646 ext. 0 for more info or go to ymcaingreenfield.org.

Summer Camp Information:The Y’s 2019 summer camp brochure is now available at the YMCA or at ymcaingreenfield.org. The Y has two indoor camps (gymnastics and sports) at the Y, and outdoor Camp Apex. The camps are for boys and girls ages 5-14. Children do not need to be Y members to go to camp. There are also half day and specialty camp options as well as early and late childcare. Registration is now in progress for all camps. Financial aid applications will be available April 1. Call 413-773-3646 ext. 0 for more information. 

Yoga Classes:The Y offers 12 yoga classes per week, all free with a Y membership. There are four levels to choose from including yoga for chronic pain to Vinyasa yoga. Yoga classes improve flexibility, strength and posture as well as improve bone health, blood flow and blood pressure levels. Class schedules are available at the YMCA or ymcaingreenfield.org.
