Family Open House Week:

Oct. 8 to 13 from 3:30 to 8 p.m. each day, the YMCA is offering a free week for families with children ages 1 through 12.

One- to 5-year-olds can be signed into the Child Watch room for 90 minutes (Monday through Friday from 4:15 to 7:30 p.m.) and 5- to 12-year-olds can play in the game room (Monday through Friday from 3:30 to 8 p.m.) while their parents/grandparents do their own Y activity (Group Exercise classes, lap swimming, cardio machines, weight room, basketball).

Families can also attend family swims (Monday through Saturday), try parent/child gym or swim class, and participate in Friday and Saturday Family Fun Nights from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Parents must remain in the Y at all times and must be with the children when using the pool, gym or gymnastics center.

Call 413-773-3646 for schedules and policy/procedure questions. Parent photo ids are required the first visit.

Gently used clothing needed: The Y’s 10th annual Free Clothing Store is Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 1 to 6 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A lot of gently used clothing donations are needed, especially children’s clothing. Donations may be dropped off in the Y’s front lobby. Volunteers are needed Oct. 2 and 3 to fold, sort and organize the donations. Last year, more than 700 “shoppers” used the Y Free Store as a source for needed clothing. Call 413-773-3646 for more information or to volunteer. The Free Store is another social responsibility project of the YMCA.

Ballroom Dancing: Dance Greenfield is back at the YMCA. Every Wednesday from 7:30 to 9 p.m., dance instructors will be teaching a different dance, as well as playing a variety of dance music. Upcoming dance lessons are as follows: Wednesday: foxtrot; Oct. 10: waltz; Oct. 17: tango; Nov. 7: cha-cha. The lessons are open to all adults — free for Y members, and $5 per person per lesson for non-members. No partner or experience needed.

Hypnosis for Weight Loss: The six-week course, “Mind Over Platter,” will help people stop letting their “won’t power” hijack their “will power.” The course meets on Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and Nov. 6. The cost is $69 for Y members and $79 for non-members. Call 413-773-3646 to register, or ext. 448 for more information.

Full Day Preschool: The Y is taking registrations for the 2018-19 school year. There are two air-conditioned classrooms, an outdoor play area, weekly swim and gymnastics lessons and daily physical education. School hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; also available is early care from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and late care from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The preschool meets on snow days. Call Lisa at 413-773-3646, ext. 431 to schedule a tour.

Free 60+ Health Fair: On Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to noon, the YMCA, in conjunction with Baystate Franklin Medical Center, will provide a free Health Fair & Functional Fitness Assessment for people ages 60 and over.

The health fair will have 20 booths of local vendors who provide services for those 60 and over.

The functional fitness test assesses body strength, endurance, flexibility, agility and balance. Individuals will meet with a Y exercise trainer to review their test scores and discuss how to improve in each area.

At noon, Baystate Franklin Medical Center staff will be speaking on “Self-Care First.”

The Y will be providing a free lunch. Call 413-773-3646 to register for the fitness assessment and lunch.
