Winter Carnival Traffic Alert: A reminder that Main Street and Federal Street will be closed on Friday from 6 to 6:30 p.m. for the Winter Carnival Parade of Lights. Please seek alternate route. Gerrett Street will also be closed. There will be no parking on either side of Beacon Street.

Winter Carnival Ice Carving: Be sure to check out the live ice carving on Friday beginning around 8 a.m. An additional ice carving has been added to the top of Miles Street. Vote for your favorite at the ballot box on town common. One vote per person. Voting closes Sunday at 10 a.m. If you are interested in signing up to be part of our overnight ice sculpture watch crew, see our website below for volunteer details.

Winter Carnival Cribbage Tournament: If cribbage is your game, stop by the Winter Carnival cribbage tournament on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Youth Center. Registration begins at 2:45 p.m. $15 registration fee. Open to all ages. Custom Pioneer Valley wood art championship and runner-up cribbage board/ trophies will be awarded.

Winter Carnival Beacon Field Events: Join us at Beacon Field on Sunday for the culmination of Winter Carnival including a warming fire, cookie bake-off, chili cook-off, hockey match, hay rides, DJ, community wide tug of war, K9 keg pull, ice bowling, broom ball and cardboard sled contest (sleds will be judged based on creativity). Awards ceremony for contests throughout the weekend will follow.

Winter Carnival Parade of Lights: Help the Greenfield Recreation Department light up the night and kick-off Winter Carnival right by entering your vehicle into the 4th annual Parade of Lights on Friday. Decorated vehicles will travel from Newton School, along Main Street, down Federal Street, on to Beacon Street, and ending on Gerrett Street at Beacon Field. Prizes awarded for best and brightest, artistic illumination, and town council award. More information available on the website below. Registration is required.

Winter Carnival Sleigh Bell Run: Registration is open for the Winter Carnival Sleigh Bell Run, a 4-mile road race through a scenic course starting on Hope Street and running through the Highland Park area. Race is Saturday at 10 a.m. Register at Recreation Department or Town Hall, or day of race at Hope & Olive Restaurant from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Prizes awarded for multiple age divisions. First 75 entrants receive T-shirt and sleigh bell bracelets. $25 registration; youth under the age of 18 are half price.

Winter Carnival Breakfast with Olaf: Enjoy breakfast on Sunday from 8 to 10 a.m. at the 99 Restaurant with Olaf, the snowman who loves warm hugs! $6 per person; 10 and under $4. Two years and under free. Cash or check only.

February Vacation Week: Sign up today for a fun filled week of activities, games and outdoor fun for your child, grades K to 7. This program is held at the Youth Center on 20 Sanderson St. from Tuesday, Feb. 20, through Friday, Feb. 23, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with early care available from 7:30 to 9 a.m., and late care from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Walking field trips to Beacon Field for sledding, skating and snow fun. Lunch, afternoon snack and drink must be sent with child. Morning snack provided. Children must bring appropriate winter clothing (boots, hats, gloves, etc). Registration includes children’s participation in the Community Kids Bringing Art to the Heart of Greenfield program. Registration deadline is Feb. 6. $120 residents, $130 non-residents. Late care and early care $16 each per child.
