SUNDERLAND — The First Congregational Church of Sunderland will hold a special Homecoming Anniversary Celebration Service Sunday celebrating 300 years in the community.

The service starts at 10 a.m. in the white South Main Street church. Light refreshments will follow into the afternoon.

Founded in 1717, the historic church is today guided by the Rev. Barbara K. Seamon.

Weekly Sunday worship services include choral performances. Frequently, the community gathers for country breakfasts or suppers. Other community outreach programs include a quilting group, which sometimes donates quilts to the area’s neonatal intensive care unit for ill newborns.

There’s also a Bible study, youth activities and “Serendipity” thrift shop open Saturdays for those in need.
