BERNARDSTON — State troopers arrested a Holyoke woman Wednesday afternoon following a pursuit that ended when the vehicle she was driving struck tire-deflation devices that a trooper deployed across the northbound lane of Interstate 91.
Katherine M. DeJesus, 31, pulled over in the breakdown lane and was taken into custody on charges of driving under the influence of drugs, failure to stop for police, negligent operation, driving with a suspended license, marked lanes violations, speeding and possession of a Class B substance, according to State Police spokesperson David Procopio. DeJesus was booked at the Shelburne Falls barracks.
According to Procopio, the Northampton barracks received a report early Wednesday afternoon of a woman, operating a brown Honda Civic, who had swerved and nearly hit another vehicle on Interstate 91 in the Northampton area. At around 1:20 p.m., a sergeant with the Shelburne Falls barracks located the suspect’s vehicle on Interstate 91 in Deerfield and tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver kept going.
The car swerved over multiple lanes while fleeing, Procopio said, until DeJesus was ultimately stopped in Bernardston using the tire-deflation devices.
DeJesus was released on bail and will be arraigned in Greenfield District Court.
