NORTHFIELD — Throughout the cold winter months, foodies sometimes seek out comfort food in hopes of warming the soul as well as the body.

In Northfield, Tonia King and the rest of the Parish Council at St. Patrick’s Church are happy to oblige by offering a drive-thru lasagna dinner on Saturday, Feb. 12.

At a cost of $12, each meal will include lasagna (meat or vegetarian varieties available), salad, a roll and dessert. Those who call in their reservations to Phyllis at 413-648-5313 by Tuesday, Feb. 8, can pick up their meals on Feb. 12, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the church, located at 80 Main St.

According to King, the Parish Council organizes between four and six dinners each year as fundraisers for the church, with the largest ones serving corned beef and cabbage in March and German pork roast in October. Lasagna has always proven to be popular, though, she said.

“Lasagna has always been a favorite,” King said. “We have a great team that helps put all the dinners together and deliver them (to the vehicles that arrive). It’s a real community effort.”

Like many other community meals, St. Patrick’s Church transitioned to offering drive-thru meals as a health safety measure amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s grab and go, so they’re safe,” King said of attendees and volunteers.

King said the Parish Council will accept reservations for up to 80 lasagna dinners.
