Flu clinic planned for Thursday

SOUTH DEERFIELD — Anyone ages 18 and older can receive a flu shot from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, during a flu clinic at the Deerfield Highway Garage, located at 9 Merrigan Way.

Senior high-dose vaccines and standard doses are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Masks are required.

VaxBus heading to Frontier

SOUTH DEERFIELD — A mobile COVID-19 vaccine clinic is coming to Frontier Regional School’s parking lot on Friday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The bus will be parked next to the tennis court, and will have both the Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines available. Walk-in appointments are encouraged and no ID or health insurance are needed.

All people over the age of 12 are welcome, but children ages 12 to 17 must have signed consent or be with a responsible adult. The consent form for minors can be found at

Village Neighbors hosting hike

LEVERETT — Village Neighbors, a nonprofit that helps senior citizens in Wendell, New Salem, Leverett and Shutesbury live at home for as long as possible, will host a hike at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19.

According to a Village Neighbors newsletter, the two-hour hike will go through easy and intermediate trails, and will begin at the eight-car parking lot on Shutesbury Road. Participants are advised to look for the Village Neighbors sign on their right as they leave the Leverett town center.

Masks will be required when the group meets at the start, but then it will be up to each individual’s comfort level as the hike begins.

The rain date is Oct. 21. Participants can simply show up, or an RSVP option is available for those who would like notifications. Rides are also available by calling 413-345-6894.

Food and cider pairing set for Friday

DEERFIELD — Champney’s Restaurant & Tavern and West County Cider are hosting a food and cider pairing event on Friday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m. at the Deerfield Inn.

The cost is $75 per person, plus tax and gratuity. Reservations are strongly suggested. Those who are interested can call 413-774-5587.

Scallops, a cider butternut bisque, merguez sausage and a braised pork shank are on the menu. Local musician John Corbett will perform.
