Wood banks enable rural communities to recycle surplus trees and other sources of wood into firewood to address energy insecurity. Typically, according to a state webpage, public and private trees are cut down during work on utility rights of way. The trees are then brought to the local highway department to be cut into rounds for firewood.

Conway’s wood bank will be located behind the Conway Grammar School, next to the Highway Department’s garage.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering or has expertise in the area can contact Town Administrator Veronique Blanchard at townadmin@conwayma.gov or 413-369-4235, ext. 3.
