Nov. 12: Photo essay, presentation on Deerfield’s transformation throughout its history

SOUTH DEERFIELD — A panel of local historians will be presenting “And That’s the Way it Was,” a photo essay and audience discussion event where folks can learn about the deep history of Deerfield.

Barbara Matthews, Gary Sanderson and Peter Thomas will present photos and other historical artifacts from Deerfield’s 350 years of history at Frontier Regional School on Sunday, Nov. 12, from 2 to 3 p.m. Alongside their presentation, attendees are encouraged to bring questions of their own to facilitate a group discussion.

The event is sponsored by the Friends of Deerfield. Refreshments from Kathleen Tomaus Catering will be available.

Erika Higgins Ross appointed to Planning Board

DEERFIELD — Resident Erika Higgins Ross has been appointed to the Planning Board to fill a vacancy left by Analee Wulfkuhle.

Higgins Ross previously served on the Personnel Board for three years and will serve on the Planning Board until the spring’s election. She is also vice president of the Friends of Tilton Library and has other school and professional board experience.

“I’d love to have her on the board,” said Planning Board Chair Denise Mason. “I think she’d be a great addition.”

Community Preservation Committee accepting grant applications

SHUTESBURY — The town’s Community Preservation Committee is accepting grant applications for projects related to historic preservation, community housing, open space or recreation needs.

The committee encourages folks to be creative in proposing projects, both big and small. The determination of eligibility form, as well as more information about the Community Preservation Committee’s process, is available on the town website. Anyone with questions can email cpc@shutesbury.org.

Mount Toby Concerts hosting Claudia Schmidt and Sally Rogers

LEVERETT — Mount Toby Concerts will host a concert by Claudia Schmidt and Sally Rogers on Saturday, Nov. 18, starting at 7 p.m. at 194 Long Plain Road (Route 63).

The artists’ background in music goes back nearly 40 years in both their solo and duo careers. They weave their voices, dulcimers and guitar into their songs.

A recommended donation of $20 to $30 is requested at the door, although you may pay as you are able to. To reserve seats, email diacrowe@yahoo.com or call 413-835-1695.

Conway Girl Scout Troop welcoming new members

CONWAY — The Conway-based Girl Scout Troop 65100 is welcoming new members in grades four and five who are seeking leadership, life and other skills, while also providing opportunities for community service.
