Sunderland Democrats plan town caucus

SUNDERLAND — The Sunderland Democratic Town Committee is hosting a virtual caucus for registered Democrats on Saturday at 10 a.m.

The caucus, to be held on Zoom, will open at 9:30 a.m. to give attendees time to complete registration materials, according to a notice from Susan Triolo, chair of the Sunderland Democratic Town Committee.

Attendees will elect delegates and alternate delegates to this year’s Massachusetts Democratic Platform Convention. The convention will be held at the Tsongas Center at the University of Massachusetts Lowell on Sept. 25.

Pre-registered youths are eligible if they turned 16 years old by June 15. They can pre-register online at sec.state.ma.us.

Antique truck show planned for August

SOUTH DEERFIELD — The Western Mass Chapter of the Antique Truck Club of America will host an antique truck show on Sunday, Aug. 1, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Yankee Candle headquarters.

Admission and registration are both free. There will also be a flea market, food vendors and raffles for attendees.

South Deerfieldstudent named to Skidmore College Dean’s List

SOUTH DEERFIELD — Megan Martino of South Deerfield was named to the Dean’s List at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., for the spring semester.

Martino is a rising senior who is double majoring in political science and environmental studies. To be named to the Dean’s List, students must earn a grade point average of 3.65 or higher.

Recreation Dept.offering tennis lessons

DEERFIELD — The Recreation Department is hosting tennis lessons for children between the ages of 8 and 12 at Frontier Regional School each Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Lessons begin July 14 and continue through Aug. 18.

The lessons will teach basic tennis skills in group games and challenges before children play practice matches against one another. Kids must supply their own racquet and water bottle.

Lessons are $42 a session for Deerfield residents and $47 for non-residents. Registration forms can be found at bit.ly/3AY4Dl2.

student named to Fairfield University Dean’s List

SOUTH DEERFIELD — Jacob Zaranek of South Deerfield was named to the Dean’s List at Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn., for the spring semester.

To be placed on the Dean’s List, students must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours in a semester, have no outstanding or incomplete grades for that semester, and have attained a semester grade point average of at least 3.50.
