FRCOG hosting Lake Wyola visit to hear residents’ feedback
SHUTESBURY — Residents of the Lake Wyola watershed in Shutesbury and Wendell are invited to share their concerns about water quality and stormwater management in and around the lake with Franklin Regional Council of Governments staff on Saturday, Aug. 12.
The field visit will entail a mixed walking and driving tour of the watershed beginning at 1 p.m. at the Lake Wyola Association Hall, 6 Shore Drive in Shutesbury.

SOUTH DEERFIELD — The Holy Name of Jesus Church is hosting its annual chicken barbecue on Sunday, Aug. 20, at the Young Men’s Club of Hadley.
Food will be served from noon to 1 p.m., while takeout meals will be available at 11:30 a.m. The menu consists of barbecue chicken, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, tossed salad and dessert. The Rhythm Band will perform from 1 to 5 p.m. and there will be several raffles available.
Tickets are $18 each and can be purchased by calling the church at 413-665-2129. Tickets must be purchased by Sunday, Aug. 13.
WHATELY — The Watermelon Wednesdays concert series will host the Brazilian string group Fogo no Trio on Aug. 16, at 7:30 p.m.

WHATELY — Following the previous week’s performance, Watermelon Wednesdays is bringing in Bryan McDowell and Mark Schatz to perform on Aug. 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the West Whately Chapel, 153 Conway Road.
The multi-generational duo brings a wide swath of American acoustic music across several instruments with influences from old-time, bluegrass, folk and swing.

SOUTH DEERFIELD — Green Day Recycling is hosting a recycling event on Saturday, Sept. 30, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church at 29 Sugarloaf St.
At the event, community members can bring old electronics, including TVs, computers and other devices to be recycled in a responsible and eco-friendly manner.
Small electronic devices, such as computers and laptops, are $5 to recycle; larger items like floor lamps are $10; large appliances and TVs between 26 and 35 inches are $30. Small items, including cell phones, bicycles, wires, cables, batteries and tablets, are free of charge, but a cash donation is recommended. Cash is preferred and checks can be written for recycling more than $30.
