ORANGE — A leaking heating unit in the ceiling resulted in what was described as a very minor water issue at Ralph C. Mahar Regional School on Saturday.

Orange Fire Chief James Young said water dripped from the ceiling onto the hallway floor and under the doors of two adjourning classrooms. He said janitorial staff and administrators quickly cleaned up the water and there was no damage to the school. Young said his department responded at 4:52 p.m. and left the school at 5:34 p.m.

Superintendent Tari Thomas explained an athletics coach detected a small leak and reported it to the principal and the Police and Fire departments.

“It was extremely minor in nature and did not warrant such a high-level response, but we’re glad it was caught and that the Fire Department had fun with it on their social media page,” she said in an email, referring to a Facebook post stating that, as a precaution, school would be canceled this week. However, there is no school this week due to February break.
