SHELBURNE FALLS — The Shelburne Falls Eagles Auxiliary is organizing a fundraiser for the Hager family after a third-alarm fire on Sept. 9 destroyed a barn, killed 39 animals and melted equipment at their Colrain farm.

The benefit on Saturday, Nov. 18, will take place at the Fraternal Order of Eagles at 52 State St. Tickets, which include dinner, cost $20 and must be purchased in advance at the Fraternal Order of Eagles or at Rethreads consignment shop, 14 Bridge St.

Dinner will be served by Cliff’s Smokin’ Backyard BBQ at 5:30 p.m. Eagles Auxiliary member Dawn Pease said many local businesses donated food for the meal, as well as gift baskets that will be raffled off at the event.

People are also welcome to come after the dinner at 7 p.m. to hear music by classic rock cover band Lakeside Drive. There is a $5 cover charge for entry after 7 p.m.

“We are trying to raise as much as we can to help them out,” Pease said.

Hager’s Farm on Merrifield Lane in Colrain lost four sows and 35 piglets, tractors, a baler, a snowmobile, a mower, its entire stock of Pioneer Valley Popcorn and countless other tools and pieces of equipment in the Sept. 9 barn fire. While the Hager family does have insurance on the farm, much of the destroyed equipment and stock is not covered in the policy.

“It has been incredible the amount of care people have given us,” said Kim Stevens, a member of the Hager’s Farm family. “It is humbling.”

The Fraternal Order of Eagles — of which many of the Hagers are members — frequently hosts fundraisers, including an annual meat raffle that will take place on Friday, Nov. 17. Pease said the fundraiser for the Hager family is the largest fundraiser the Fraternal Order of Eagles has hosted in recent years.
